FFOP C.C. graciously welcomed at Balmoral estate in Aberdeenshire
HRH the Queen temporarily stopped play.
On Saturday the 30th of August the annual match of Netherlands’ based Fellowship of Fairly Off Places C.C. was played at the glorious and royal Balmoral estate in Aberdeenshire.
As the Queen was in residence the estate was sealed off for the general public. FFOP C.C. however was graciously welcomed.
This year’s opponent was utterly hospitable and friendly Crathie C.C. who, under inspiring leadership of skipper Rhod McEwan, duly and soundly beat FFOP C.C.. Crathie C.C. 135 and FFOP C.C. 110 for 6 in a 25 over match.
At one stage the Queen appeared at the boundary. She smiled and waved at the players. Play was temporally stopped in order for the players to acknowledge her friendly gesture by waving back. Play resumed forthwith as HRH moved on.
The after-match dinner welcomed old England XI player John Edrich as Guest of Honour.
