R&W 2nd XI 161/9 – Amstelland 162/7
On the first sunny day of the season the seconds were playing Amstelland. Japie held up the Red & White tradition of losing tosses and we were sent in to bat. After losing three early wickets Kees (who hadn’t held a bat in about 7 months) and Koen rebuilt the innings, reaching 70* and 35. In the end we got to 161 of our 40 overs. We thought we had a decent chance to defend this if we fielded well and hit the right areas with the ball. After a poor 15 overs, in which we let Amstelland get to a 120 for the loss of only one wicket the game turned. We took some wickets and managed to create some panic amongst the Amstelland batsmen. Parvesh bowled very well to get a four-for, and also Koen did a good job for us picking up two victims. Even though we did well to build pressure and put up a fight, in the end our total of 161 proved to be just short. This does prove though that no matter what the score is, there is always a chance. Probably with a bit more practice and match rhythm we’ll pull these games towards us and we’ll hopefully be able to promote to the Overgangsklasse. Let’s do it boys!
